Travel & entry

Getting into Kenya.

Kenya no longer issues traditional visas. Depending on your passport, you either enter visa-free or apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before you fly.

Most African passports

No eTA needed

  • Citizens of most African countries, including Mauritius, can enter visa-free for short stays.
  • East African Community citizens can stay up to 180 days.
  • Libya and Somalia are excluded and still need an eTA.
Most other passports

Apply for an eTA

  • Apply only on the official portal, etakenya.go.ke. Other websites charge extra fees.
  • Apply at least two weeks before travel. The minimum is 3 days, and applications open 90 days ahead.
  • The fee is around USD 30–35 and is non-refundable.
Before you fly

Your checklist

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months, with blank pages.
  • Your return ticket and hotel booking.
  • A yellow fever certificate, if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk.
  • Travel health insurance, which we strongly recommend.
  • An invitation letter from us, if you need one. Tick the box when you register.

This is general guidance, current as of September 2026. It is not immigration advice. Entry rules change and depend on your nationality, so always confirm your requirements on the official portal etakenya.go.ke or with the nearest Kenyan mission before travelling. Travel documents are the delegate's responsibility.
